- The first step is for parents to become a global citizens by keeping abreast of what is happening globally and getting to know people from other cultures.
- One of the areas to keep abreast of is what your children are learning in school. For example, students learn about Japan in Grade 8 see Alberta/Japan History and Culture Network
- The next step is to get involved as a family in helping the less fortunate of the world on a personal basis. For example, Send a shoebox at Christmas, Sponsor a child, Or help a foreign student or newcomer adjust to life in your country. There are many opportunities we just have to look for them.
- Have people, from other countries, into your home and participate in family activities (children are never too young to have this experience. This could range from a one time event to a student living in your home for an extended period of time.

Parents as Global Citizenship Coaches
Globalization, especially in education, makes parenting global citizens an ever increasing responsibility This need not be something that is feared, but a great learning experience for the whole family. Here are some suggestions to start a dialogue on this important aspect of coaching:
